Description: This course is for Aboriginal people who want to develop skills and strategies to gain employment and/or participate in further study. This is a practical course with emphasis on the development of language and literacy, learning skills, communication and workplace knowledge. 
Entry requirements: Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people with Year 10 or equivalent. 
Learning pathways: When you finish this course you will be eligible for credit transfer into:
- Certificate III in Preparation for Vocational and Further Study;
- Certificate IV in Tertiary Preparation.

This course also provides a pathway to the Diploma in Aboriginal Studies. 
Career opportunities: Completion of this course provides you with the academic requirements to apply for entry to the Police Academy, Department of Corrective Services and other government agencies.

Volume of Learning
Your learning commitment for this qualification is a minimum of 360 supervised hours.

There is an expectation that you will engage in a range of activities to support your supervised learning which may include:

Recognition is the process by which you can demonstrate you already have the skills or competencies taught in a unit or qualification. It is the recognition of the skills, knowledge and experience you have gained through previous studies, work and life in general. Put simply, it means if you can demonstrate you already have the skills and experience you can complete partial or a whole qualification without needing to attend classes.

There are two types of Recognition:
• Credit Transfer, which allows you to receive credit for unit/s of competency previously successfully completed.
• Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), which is an assessment process of your previous skills, knowledge and experience to meet the requirements of the course you are enrolled.
