About: Do you work in the Environmental, Horticulture and Primary Industries? The TAFE NSW Statement of Attainment in Chemical Application will teach you how to safely and correctly apply chemicals in order to control weeds in agricultural, horticultural or land management based enterprises.

You will learn how to prepare, handle, apply, store and transport chemicals in a responsible and effective manner. This is a practical hands on course for people wanting to work with Agriculture Chemicals.

Successful completion of this course will ensure you meet the training requirements determined by the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority for the acquisition of some restricted chemicals and also by the NSW Pesticides Regulation 2009 for the unsupervised application of pesticides.

Volume of Learning:
Your learning commitment (known as the volume of learning) for this qualification is a minimum of 30 hours. This includes approximately 14 of face to face training. You will need to allocate the remaining hours to engage in a range of activities to support your learning which may include;
• Independent study
• Work placement or simulated workplace activities
• Research and projects
• Preparation of assessment tasks
• Field/industry visits
• Tutorials
• Learning support

Successful completion of the three units in this course satisfy the legislative requirements in NSW for participants to handle, prepare,apply,transport and store registered pesticides without supervision as required under Pesticide Legislation in NSW. Accreditation lasts for 5 years. Two units in this course are core or elective units in Certificate 3 courses in Agriculture

Recognition is the process by which you can demonstrate you already have the skills or competencies taught in a unit or qualification. It is the recognition of the skills, knowledge and experience you have gained through previous studies, work and life in general. Put simply, it means if you can demonstrate you already have the skills and experience you can complete a part or a whole qualification without needing to attend classes.

There are two types of Recognition:
• Credit Transfer, which allows you to receive credit for unit/s of competency previously successfully completed.
• Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), which is an assessment process of your previous skills, knowledge and experience to meet the requirements of the course you are enrolled.
