Description: TAFE NSW is offering a short course in Cafe Cooking and Barista Basics that will give you the experience and confidence that you need to apply for the job you would like or gain experience in a career that you are interested in. In this course you will learn how to make great coffee and prepare wonderful food. This skill set will also give you 5 units that may go towards further study in the Hospitality industry.

About: This is a great short-course for candidates wanting to work in the hospitality industry and has been endorsed by industry employers. The skill set provides a pathway to work in organisations such as restaurants, hotels, motels, clubs, pubs, cafés, and coffee shops and allows for multiskilling and for specialisation in food and beverage and cookery.

Possible job titles include: espresso coffee machine operator, food and beverage attendant, function attendant, function host, restaurant host, kitchen hand, waiter, cook.

This course is subject to reaching minimum numbers.

Fee explanatory text: This is a fully NSW government subsidised course. To be eligible you must meet the above criteria.
Students will be required to wear black pants, black collared shirt and black leather non-slip shirts appropriate to wear in Cafe or Restaurant.
Comments: First day of attendance is 30 October 2017, 9:00am to 3:30pm at Moruya TAFE Campus, 2857 Princes Highway, Moruya. Room AG2D.

This course has been endorsed by industry employers to enable participants to be job-ready before applying for work. Therefore, participants will be serving food and beverages to the general public in the Mantle Cafe on Campus.

Recognition is the process by which you can demonstrate you already have the skills or competencies taught in a unit or qualification. It is the recognition of the skills, knowledge and experience you have gained through previous studies, work and life in general. Put simply, it means if you can demonstrate you already have the skills and experience you can complete a part or a whole qualification without needing to attend classes.

There are two types of Recognition:
• Credit Transfer, which allows you to receive credit for unit/s of competency previously successfully completed.
• Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), which is an assessment process of your previous skills, knowledge and experience to meet the requirements of the course you are enrolled.
