Description: This course is suitable for people who want to explore being front-line support workers with older people or people with disability, in a residential care or in community based care. You will undertake five Competency Units. If you choose to progress on to CIII Individual Support in 2018, you will be eligible for Recognition for these, thus lightening your load. It is also a course designed to help you develop general work-readiness skills, if you decide that Individual Support work is not for you at this time. 
Other requirements: All participants enrolling in to this course will require a Unique Student Identifier (USI) - www. usi.gov.au

About: You will be undertaking placement in a disability service and an aged care service. You will need to have suitable clothing for this (eg white or light polo shirt, dark trousers and comfortable lace-up shoes). You will also be responsible for travel costs to complete on the job learning activities and field trips.
You will be required to get:
• National Police Check (current price available on Australian Federal Police website)
• Working With Children Check (free to students) Having a criminal record may prevent you from undertaking work placement, and therefore prevent your successful completion of the course. It is also likely to prevent you from obtaining work in the industry.
It is also recommended that you attend to your vaccinations.
You will need access to internet ( you can use the TAFE library) Further information will be provided at your first class.

Volume of Learning:
Your learning commitment (known as the volume of learning) for this qualification is a minimum of 200 hours. This includes approximately 144 of face to face training. You will need to allocate the remaining hours to engage in a range of activities to support your learning which may include;
• Independent study
• Work placement or simulated workplace activities
• Research and projects
• Preparation of assessment tasks
• Field/industry visits
• Tutorials
• Learning support

Required Student Skills:
This is a Certificate III level course. Individuals undertaking this course will be required to undertake one or more of the activities listed above.

This is a course subsidised by the NSW government. To be eligible you must be:
- aged 15 years or older
- live or work in New South Wales
- have left school
- are an Australian citizen, permanent resident, humanitarian visa holder or New Zealand citizen
