Description: This course is for educators and support staff working or planning to work in education and care settings and who are required to respond to first aid emergencies, including asthmatic and anaphylactic emergencies. The course will enable you to be approved as meeting the regulatory requirements of the Education and Care Services National Regulations 2011 for an approved first aid qualification, approved anaphylaxis management training and approved emergency asthma management training.

You will learn how to respond in an emergency situation, apply appropriate first aid procedures, communicate details of the incident and reflect on incident and own performance.

When you finish this course you can undertake further First Aid training in other first aid related occupational courses. Advanced standing may be granted in courses where providing first aid in education and/or care settings is a part of the course.

ENROLLING IN FIRST AID UNITS OF COMPETENCY

If you are seeking to enrol in a First Aid unit of competency you are advised that to complete the unit you must be able to perform basic life support skills, for example control bleeding and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). If you have a disability that would prevent you from performing required basic life support skills you are advised that you will not be able to achieve the unit of competency.

WORK PLACEMENTS

Many TAFE courses have a compulsory work placement component to assist you to apply your learning in a practical environment and you may be required to comply with some (or all) of the following.

- You will be required to read and sign the NSW Health Code of Conduct form.

4. STUDENT READINESS FOR WORK PLACEMENT - Generally work placements will only occur after there has been a reasonable amount of student/teacher contact and when the teacher is satisfied that you are ready to benefit from workplace learning and perform workplace duties. This course will run for one day on Thursday 2 November 2017 at Bega Campus commencing at 8:30am to 5:00pm. Please go to Block B, Ground Floor, Room 01.

The First Aid Coordinator will provide you with a First Aid workbook and textbook prior to attending your first aid class and you will be required to complete Part 1 of the assessment workbook before you attend class. On the day of attendance you will be assessed on the practical components of the course.

The provide first aid unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty.

TAFE NSW reserves the right to cancel a course if there are insufficient numbers and will endeavour to give participants as much notice as possible. Cancellations should be advised in writing more than 7 days prior to commencement of the course to be eligible for a full refund. For cancellations advised within 7 days of the course no refund will be made however a substitute delegate may attend. If a substitute delegate is to attend you must contact us before the course commences. There are no fee exemptions available for commercial courses. Course fees cannot be refunded to participants who are unable to attend for reasons beyond TAFE NSW control.
