Description: This qualification is for persons operating within an organisation that provides professional pet grooming services. A pet grooming attendant undertakes salon reception and housekeeping duties as well as bathing, brushing, trimming and other basic grooming services for domestic pets, usually dogs and in some cases cats. The duties require patience and a genuine empathy for animals, excellent customer service skills as well as high standards of cleanliness and professionalism.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication. However, an individual unit of competency may specify relevant licensing, legislative and/or regulatory requirements. Specific determination should be sought through the relevant State or Territory.

Your first class will be 9-12noon on Monday 23 July 2018 in room AF11 at Yallah campus, just down the road from Wollongong. At this class your teacher will discuss with you your timetable based on your previous studies - this will determine your attendance days. This will be Monday or Tuesday or a combination of both days. Workshops and excursions to pet grooming facilities will make up components of the course. Students must have a minimum of 6-8 hours work experience (paid or voluntary) in the Animal Grooming industry - this work placement will be confirmed before your appllication is made successful.

Volume of Learning: Your learning commitment (known as the volume of learning) for this qualification is a minimum of 480 hours. This includes approximately 216 of face to face training. You will need to allocate the remaining hours to engage in a range of activities to support your learning which may include; engage in a range of activities to support your supervised learning which may include:
- Independent study
- Work placement or simulated workplace activities
- Research and projects
- Preparation of assessment tasks
- Field/industry visits
- Tutorials
- Learning support

Would you like to expand your knowledge of grooming and caring for animals? Would you like to gain work in the pet grooming industry? The Certificate III Pet Grooming is for persons operating within an organisation that provides professional pet grooming services. A pet grooming attendant undertakes salon reception and housekeeping duties as well as bathing, brushing, trimming and other basic grooming services for domestic pets, usually dogs and in some cases cats. The duties require patience and a genuine empathy for animals, excellent customer service skills as well as high standards of cleanliness and professionalism.
Along side your course work you are required to complete a minimum of 8 hours per week of work experience (paid or voluntary) within an animal care industry which provides pet grooming services. Practical skills are a key component to this course. Timetabled workshops at our purpose built animal care facility at Yallah Campus - just down the road from Wollongong - can support students in practising skills but do not replace the requirement for work experience in an appropriate animal care facility.
This is a Certificate III level course. Skills to study effectively include the ability to work on projects and or in a team, research information, follow instructions and communicate effectively.

Please ensure you bring writing materials and a USB stick with you and wear appropriate clothing including enclosed shoes, covered shoulders and long pants.

Recognition:
Recognition is the process by which you can demonstrate you already have the skills or competencies taught in a unit or qualification. It is the recognition of the skills, knowledge and experience you have gained through previous studies, work and life in general. Put simply, it means if you can demonstrate you already have the skills and experience you can complete a part or a whole qualification without needing to attend classes.

There are two types of Recognition:
- Credit Transfer, which allows you to receive credit for unit/s of competency previously successfully completed.
- Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), which is an assessment process of your previous skills, knowledge and experience to meet the requirements of the course you are enrolled.
