Description: This qualification reflects the role of workers in a range of early childhood education settings who work within the requirements of the Education and Care Services National Regulations and the National Quality Standard. They support the implementation of an approved learning framework, and support childrens wellbeing, learning and development. Depending on the setting, educators may work under direct supervision or autonomously.

Under the Education and Care Services National Law (2011) the Australian Childrens Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) publishes lists of approved early childhood education and care qualifications and information regarding regulatory requirements here:www.acecqa.gov.au

ENROLLING IN FIRST AID UNITS OF COMPETENCY If you are seeking to enrol in a First Aid unit of competency you are advised that to complete the unit you must be able to perform basic life support skills, for example control bleeding and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). If you have a disability that would prevent you from performing required basic life support skills you are advised that you will not be able to achieve the unit of competency. 
Other requirements: WORK PLACEMENTS

Many TAFE courses have a compulsory work placement component to assist you to apply your learning in a practical environment and you may be required to comply with some (or all) of the following.

1. NSW HEALTH

Before you commence any clinical placements in NSW Health facilities, you will be required to
• Meet NSW Health’s - National Criminal Record Check requirements;
• Sign the NSW Health Code of Conduct form and any other forms, as required by NSW Health;
• Undertake Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Infectious Diseases and provide your Health Care Worker/Student Vaccination Record Card.

2. AGED CARE WORK - Before you undertake any clinical placements in Aged Care Facilities you will be required to undertake a National Criminal Record Check. Visit: http://www.police.nsw.gov.au/about_us/structure/specialist_operations/forensic_services/criminal_records_section

3. COMMUNITY AND CHILDREN’S SERVICES

Anyone in child-related work (including student placements and volunteers) MUST have a current Working with Children Check (students/volunteers free) in line with the Office of Children’s Guardian phase-in schedule and processes. Visit:

4. STUDENT READINESS FOR WORK PLACEMENT

Generally work placements will only occur after there has been a reasonable amount of student/teacher contact and when the teacher is satisfied that you are ready to benefit from workplace learning and perform workplace duties. Your teacher can provide further information.

This course is not self-paced. Learners will follow a set study program, involving twice weekly webinars. This course is designed for learners wishing to study flexibly (online) yet with a high level of support. The course is delivered online and it is expected that learners will have basic computer skills, access to a reliable internet connection and suitable computer equipment. This course requires 120 hours of practical work to be undertaken in a regulated early childhood environment. We will assist learners to find suitable work placement services for the purpose of on the job skill development and assessment in their local area wherever possible. Learners must be either working in an early childhood service or volunteer at least one day per week.
This offering is for two semesters only ( 1 year duration). In each semester we have allocated 10 days of work placement (1 day per week for 10 weeks)

Attendance will be 2 nights per week, Monday and Tuesday, 5:30-9:30. This course requires 120 hours of work placement and this will be arranged for you. Please bring a notebook and pen to class on 6th February.
