Description: This skill set reflects the skill requirements for providing person centred support to older people in home and community settings. 
Entry requirements: This skill set has been endorsed by industry as suitable for individuals who:

• hold a qualification at Certificate III level or higher in Community Services, Health or related field

or

• have skills equivalent to the qualification requirement validated through a recognition of prior learning process. 
Learning pathways: These units provide credit towards a range of qualifications in the CHC Community Services Training Package at Certificate III or Certificate IV level. 
Career opportunities: This skill set is for people working in various care and support roles in the community services sector who wish to develop skills in home and community support. 
Support for students: TAFE NSW has a range of support services available including support for students with disabilities, extensive library and information services, career advice and counselling, children's centres and support for multicultural or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. About: This course involves 40 hours of work in a Home and Community setting, with older people.

This may include early and late shifts. This offering is designed for people who already hold Certificate III Individual Support (Ageing) or its predecessor Certificate III Aged Care.

It is therefore expected that participants will be able to seek CT or RPL for CHCAGE001 Facilitate the empowerment of older people CHCCCS011 Meet personal support needs .

If you do not hold these Units (or their predecessors), you should speak to Liz Henigan 44219880 about your options.

This qualification is provided online. However, we ask that you attend a workshop on 22 February 2018 in Block: F Floor: First Room: 07 so we can orient you to the course and make sure you are confident using the online tool. Please bring paper and pen, or device, with you.

This short online course is designed to assist people who hold Certificate III Individual Support (Ageing specialisation) or the earlier Certificate III Aged Care , to extend their knowledge and confirm their skills in the expanding Home and Community sector. This means you will be able to obtain Recognition for two of the four Units in the qualification. You will also need to undertake 40 hours of work in the Home and Community sector with people who are ageing.
Applying and enrolling: Before you enrol you must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). If you don’t already have a USI, you can easily create one at https://www.usi.gov.au/students/create-your-usi. Once you have your USI, you can add TAFE Illawarra to your USI account via the Manager Permissions page on the USI website. Recognition:
Recognition is the process by which you can demonstrate you already have the skills or competencies taught in a unit or qualification. It is the recognition of the skills, knowledge and experience you have gained through previous studies, work and life in general. Put simply, it means if you can demonstrate you already have the skills and experience you can complete a part or a whole qualification without needing to attend classes.

There are two types of Recognition:
• Credit Transfer, which allows you to receive credit for unit/s of competency previously successfully completed.
• Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), which is an assessment process of your previous skills, knowledge and experience to meet the requirements of the course you are enrolled.
