Description: This course is for people who want to work in the primary trades in the construction industry, with the exception of plumbing.

The qualification is designed to introduce you to recognised trade callings in the construction industry. The electives are structured to allow choice from areas of trade skills as an introduction to a range of occupations. 
Entry requirements: There are no entry requirements for this qualification.

Completion of the general WHS Induction Training Program, specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction Training for Construction Work (ASCC 2007), is required before entering a construction work site. 
Career opportunities: Entry into a Construction Australian Apprenticeship eg Joinery, shopfitting, carpentry, bricklaying and other occupations in general construction.

Your learning commitment for this qualification is a minimum of 360 supervised hours There is an expectation that you will engage in a range of activities to support your supervised learning which may include:
• Independent study
• Work placement or simulated workplace activities
• Research and projects
• Preparation of assessment tasks
• Field/industry visits
• Tutorials
• Learning support

Required student skills This is a Certificate II level course. Skills to study effectively include reading and writing to interpret information, the ability to work in a team, receive and act on instructions and communicate with others.

Learners will be required to provide their own (PPE) Personal Protective Equipment. This can be purchased for approximately $250.00

Comments: Recognition is the process by which you can demonstrate you already have the skills or competencies taught in a unit or qualification. It is the recognition of the skills, knowledge and experience you have gained through previous studies, work and life in general. Put simply, it means if you can demonstrate you already have the skills and experience you can complete partial or a whole qualification without needing to attend classes.

There are two types of Recognition:
• Credit Transfer, which allows you to receive credit for unit/s of competency previously successfully completed.
• Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), which is an assessment process of your previous skills, knowledge and experience to meet the requirements of the course you are enrolled.
