Description: This course is for apprentices in the carpentry trade.

You will learn the basic foundations and content to develop the skills and knowledge used in the building and construction industry to efficiently produce quality work.

You will also learn about safe work practices and about the context of the building industry. 
Entry requirements: There are no educational entry requirements for this qualification.

However, before enrolling in this course you must successfully complete the WHS Induction Training (White Card) which will allow you entry into a construction worksite.

Selection criteria: Learners must be employed as an apprentice carpenter and be registered with The Australian Apprenticeship Centre (AAC) to be admitted into this course. Evidence of your apprenticeship and employment must be provided. Learners must hold a Workcover Induction for Construction Qualification

The cost of this course will vary based on your eligibility for a Smart and Skilled Student Fee. Eligibility criteria can be found on the Smart and Skilled website or you can call us on 1300 766 123 for further information and advice.
Fee explanatory text: Depending on your previous qualifications and experience your fee may decrease from the maximum shown. Payment by instalment may also be available. Your fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process.
The fee displayed for this qualification is the standard first qualification or traineeship fee (where applicable) for training subsidised by the NSW Government.
Other information: Learners must hold a SafeWork General Construction Induction (White Card). Learners will be required to provide their own (PPE) Personal Protective Equipment. This can be purchased for approximately $250.00 
Comments: Attendance is block release. There are 6 x 4 day blocks each year for 3 years. Block days are: Monday to Thursday. Class times are from 08:00 to 16:30. Learners will be required to provide their own (PPE) Personal Protective Equipment. This can be purchased for approximately $250.00.

Recognition is the process by which you can demonstrate you already have the skills or competencies taught in a unit or qualification. It is the recognition of the skills, knowledge and experience you have gained through previous studies, work and life in general. Put simply, it means if you can demonstrate you already have the skills and experience you can complete partial or a whole qualification without needing to attend classes.

There are two types of Recognition:
• Credit Transfer, which allows you to receive credit for unit/s of competency previously successfully completed.
• Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), which is an assessment process of your previous skills, knowledge and experience to meet the requirements of the course you are enrolled.
