Description: This course is for apprentices who work in the painting and decorating trade.
You will learn about the processes, materials, tools and equipment used and develop specialised skills associated with the surface coating industry.

You will also learn about the relationship of this trade to others in the building and construction industry. 
Entry requirements: There are no entry requirements for this qualification.

However, before enrolling in this course you must successfully complete the WHS Induction Training (White Card) which will allow you entry into a construction worksite.

This course is available for people employed as an Apprentice and currently working in a related industry area.

You will need to provide a copy of your signed Training Plan which you will receive from your Australian Apprenticeships Centre representative.

Your learning commitment for this qualification is a minimum of 864 supervised hours There is an expectation that you will engage in a range of activities to support your supervised learning which may include:
• Independent study
• Work placement or simulated workplace activities
• Research and projects
• Preparation of assessment tasks
• Field/industry visits
• Tutorials
• Learning support

This is a Certificate III level course. Skills to study effectively include the ability to work on projects and or in a team, research information, follow instructions and communicate effectively.

You will learn the basic foundations and content to develop the skills and knowledge used in the Painting and Decorating industry to efficiently produce quality work.
You will also learn about safe work practices and about the context of the Painting and Decorating industry.
This qualification consists of 23 core units and 4 electives

Selection criteria: As part of your application, you will be required to provide evidence that you have secured an apprenticeship i.e. a signed training plan or training plan proposal. 
Smart and Skilled: This training is subsidised by the NSW Government
(TAFE NSW - Provider Code: 90006)

The cost of this course will vary based on your eligibility for a Smart and Skilled Student Fee. Eligibility criteria can be found on the Smart and Skilled website or you can call us on 1300 766 123 for further information and advice.
Other information: To be eligible for this course you must be an indentured apprentice and have a signed Training Plan.

Students will need to supply all PPE (steel cap boots, safety glasses, cotton drill long pants and shirt) 
Comments: Date: commencing From 7th February 2017 (2 to 4 days per block for up to 3 years)

Resources required: Students are required to provide and wear their own personal protective equipment during lessons. This includes Painters shorts and shirt and/or overals/Bib

Resources required: Students are required to provide and wear their own personal protective equipment during lessons. This includes Painters shorts and shirt and/or overals/Bib and Brace Overals and safety shoes/boots . Also required is a scientific calculator and pen and note book. The approximate cost for these items will be $250, a details will be provided by teaching staff.

The candidate will be required only to purchase notebooks for creation of a personal journal. This may be used as an aid when doing formative assessments.

Recognition is the process by which you can demonstrate you already have the skills or competencies taught in a unit or qualification. It is the recognition of the skills, knowledge and experience you have gained through previous studies, work and life in general. Put simply, it means if you can demonstrate you already have the skills and experience you can complete partial or a whole qualification without needing to attend classes.

There are two types of Recognition:
• Credit Transfer, which allows you to receive credit for unit/s of competency previously successfully completed.
• Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), which is an assessment process of your previous skills, knowledge and experience to meet the requirements of the course you are enrolled.
