Description: This qualification reflects the role of surveying or spatial information services assistants. These people provide support under supervision to a surveying or spatial information services team. They perform a range of duties, from collecting basic spatial data and providing field support services, to simple drafting and map production.

Licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply in some States where cadastral and mining surveying must be undertaken under the supervision of a registered surveyor. Relevant state and territory regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm those requirements.

This qualification is suitable for an Australian apprenticeship pathway.

About: After your enrolment you will be contacted by a course coordinator to review your suitability for the course. On campus attendance is required for three full days per week, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for a maximum of 17 attendance weeks. First day of attendance is Monday 12 February 2018 at 9:00am. Meeting location is Block I, Level 2 Room 8 (I2.08) at TAFE NSW Wollongong Campus. Note that the attendance times may vary and you will be notified in advance.

Students will need to have a scientific calculator and a text book which costs approximately $120. All students will require their own personal protective equipment (PPE). On acceptance of your enrolment you will be informed about the details of PPE and textbook requirements.

Volume of Learning:
Your learning commitment (known as the volume of learning) for this qualification is a minimum of 455 hours. This includes approximately 350 hours of face to face training. You will need to allocate the remaining hours to engage in a range of activities to support your learning which may include;
• Independent study
• Work placement or simulated workplace activities
• Research and projects
• Preparation of assessment tasks
• Field/industry visits
• Tutorials
• Learning support

Required Student Skills:
This is a Certificate III level course. Individuals undertaking this course will be required to undertake one or more of the activities listed above.

This offering is for those wanting to work in surveying industry that have minimal or no experience. The level of this course is aimed at a survey assistant role. As part of your application for a place in this course, you may be required to attend an interview and/or participate in testing to confirm your suitability. This information will be provided to you once your application has been received by the teaching section.

It is the recognition of the skills, knowledge and experience you have gained through previous studies, work and life in general. Put simply, it means if you can demonstrate you already have the skills and experience you can complete a part or a whole qualification without needing to attend classes.

• Credit Transfer, which allows you to receive credit for unit/s of competency previously successfully completed.

Please note that staff will be verifying that you meet the entry requirements after we have received your application. Students are required to purchase a text book in order to participate in the course, this cost will be up to $150. Students are expected to have a scientific calculator.
