Description: This qualification reflects the role of skilled surveying technicians. These people hold advanced surveying skills, and perform duties involving the performance of precise measurements and setting out structures using specialised surveying equipment.

Licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply in some States where cadastral and mining surveying must be undertaken under the supervision of a registered surveyor. Relevant state and territory regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm those requirements.

This qualification is suitable for an Australian apprenticeship pathway.

About: As part of your application for a place in this course, you will need to provide copies of your previous qualifications if the courses were completed at another Training Organisation.

Your learning commitment for this qualification is a minimum of 1400 supervised hours There is an expectation that you will engage in a range of activities to support your supervised learning which may include:
• Independent study
• Work placement or simulated workplace activities
• Research and projects
• Preparation of assessment tasks
• Field/industry visits
• Tutorials
• Learning support

Required student skills This is a Diploma level course. Skills required include essay writing and referencing, typing, computer literacy, reading and analysing material and resources, problem solving, the ability to be a self- directed learner, advanced communication skills and effective time management.

This offering is for those that have completed both the Certificate III in Surveying and Spatial Information Services and also the Certificate IV in Surveying or clearly possess the equivalent skills, knowledge and experience. All applicants need to be able to prove that they are currently working in industry full time and have access to an on site mentor before they will be able to enrol. Learners should be aware that there is a heavy component of web and digital based learning and assessment in this delivery mode, as well as alot of evidence collection from the workplace.
