About: This course is suitable for those already possessing well developed music skills who wish to focus on music performance and composition. The course covers a range of subject areas that apply to performance and composition, such as performance technique development, repertoire development, improvisation, harmonic analysis, composition for orchestral instruments and electronic media, plus supporting areas of WHS, copyright and identifying original creative business ideas. Students should be computer literate, fluent readers of standard music notation, and proficient performers capable of playing a number of sets in front of an audience.

ASSUMED BACKGROUND: CUA40915 Certificate IV in Music Industry or Year 12 Music (Advanced Skills)

Your learning commitment for this qualification is a minimum of 610 supervised hours.

There is an expectation that you will engage in a range of activities to support your supervised learning which may include:
• Independent study
• Work placement or simulated workplace activities
• Research and projects
• Preparation of assessment tasks
• Field/industry visits
• Tutorials
• Learning support

This is an Advanced Diploma level course. Skills required include essay writing and referencing, typing skills, computer literacy, reading analysing and creating material and resources, advanced problem solving, the ability to be a self- direct learner, advanced communication skills and manage time effectively.

Recognition is the process by which you can demonstrate you already have the skills or competencies taught in a unit or qualification. It is the recognition of the skills, knowledge and experience you have gained through previous studies, work and life in general. Put simply, it means if you can demonstrate you already have the skills and experience you can complete a part or a whole qualification without needing to attend classes.

There are two types of Recognition:
• Credit Transfer, which allows you to receive credit for unit/s of competency previously successfully completed.
• Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), which is an assessment process of your previous skills, knowledge and experience to meet the requirements of the course you are enrolled.
