Description: This course is for people working in the finishing and coating industries in areas such as electroplating, powder coating and general surface finishing. You will learn how to prepare and apply protective coatings to a wide range of industrial materials.

About: You will learn the basic foundations and content to develop the skills and knowledge used in the Protective Coatings and Blasting industry to efficiently produce quality work. You will also learn about safe work practices and about the context of the Protective Coatings and Blasting industry.

This training is subsidised by the NSW Government This qualification consists of 11 core units and 20 electives

Your learning commitment for this qualification is up to 864 hours There is an expectation that you will engage in a range of activities to support your learning which may include:

Students are required to provide and wear their own personal protective equipment during lessons. This includes long sleeve fluro shirts, trousers, safety boots, eye protective glasses and ear plugs. Resources required: As detailed and instructed by teaching staff Learners will need to wear appropriate PPE as detailed by the Painting and Decoration Section teaching staff. You will be notified of these requirements prior to the commencment of each unit of competency. The approximate cost for these items will be $250.
The candidate will be required only to purchase notebooks for creation of a personal journal. This may be used as an aid when doing formative assessments.

Recognition is the process by which you can demonstrate you already have the skills or competencies taught in a unit or qualification. It is the recognition of the skills, knowledge and experience you have gained through previous studies, work and life in general. Put simply, it means if you can demonstrate you already have the skills and experience you can complete partial or a whole qualification without needing to attend classes.

There are two types of Recognition:
• Credit Transfer, which allows you to receive credit for unit/s of competency previously successfully completed.
• Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), which is an assessment process of your previous skills, knowledge and experience to meet the requirements of the course you are enrolled.
