Description: This course is for people who work or want to work as laboratory assistants or laboratory attendants in the food, chemical, manufacturing, construction materials, biological/environmental or pathology industry sectors. You will acquire skills associated with the operation of a laboratory and associated technical tasks such as sampling and testing. 
Entry requirements: There are no entry requirements for this qualification.

This qualification may be accessed by direct entry. Credit for this qualification may include units contained within relevant skill sets. 
Learning pathways: Further training pathways from this qualification include MSL40109 Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques or MSA40108 Certificate IV in Manufacturing Technology (Laboratory Operations Stream).

About: You will learn the basic foundations and content to develop the skills and knowledge used in the Laboratory Services industry to efficiently produce quality work.
You will also learn about safe work practices and about the context of the Laboratory Services industry.
This qualification consists of six core units and seven electives

Your learning commitment for this qualification is 390 hours There is an expectation that you will engage in a range of activities to support your learning which may include:

The candidate will be required only to purchase notebooks for creation of a personal journal. This may be used as an aid when doing formative assessments.

Recognition is the process by which you can demonstrate you already have the skills or competencies taught in a unit or qualification. It is the recognition of the skills, knowledge and experience you have gained through previous studies, work and life in general. Put simply, it means if you can demonstrate you already have the skills and experience you can complete partial or a whole qualification without needing to attend classes.

There are two types of Recognition:
• Credit Transfer, which allows you to receive credit for unit/s of competency previously successfully completed.
• Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), which is an assessment process of your previous skills, knowledge and experience to meet the requirements of the course you are enrolled.
