Description: This qualification reflects the role of individuals who work as beauty therapists to provide a range of beauty therapy treatments and services, including lash and brow treatments, nail services, make-up, massage and waxing. They communicate with clients to recommend treatments and services and sell retail skin care and cosmetic products.

These individuals undertake work independently, with limited guidance from others, to perform routine and non-routine activities and solve non-routine problems. They apply and adapt technical skills and knowledge, and use judgment in the provision of beauty treatments and services. These individuals are responsible for their own outputs and provide limited guidance to others.

Work is typically conducted in beauty salons and spas.

No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

About: To enrol in this course you must be an apprentice employed in a Beauty salon. Evidence of training plan is required.
WH&S requirements for classes: You must wear closed in protective footwear and clothing that is clean and professional for the industry.
You will be required to provide clients for some of your practical classes and assessments. Clients must be 18 years of age or over.
You will be required to purchase your own:
USB for class and Learner Resources - $15 PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) & Lab Coat $60 - $80
You will be required to purchase a textbook - Approximate cost $150 Eyelash extension kit: $120.
Compulsory Makeup Kit –approximate price $350 - $400 - Required for semester 2. Your teacher will discuss the kit with you in Semester 2.
Total approximate student costs are $770

Volume of Learning:
Your learning commitment (known as the volume of learning) for this qualification is a minimum of 1000 hours. This includes approximately 520 of face to face training. You will need to allocate the remaining hours to engage in a range of activities to support your learning which may include;
• Independent study
• Work placement or simulated workplace activities
• Research and projects
• Preparation of assessment tasks
• Field/industry visits
• Tutorials
• Learning support

Required student skills:
This is a Certificate IV level course. Skills to study effectively include research and interpretation of information, referencing, time management and ability to work on projects and or in a team.

This is an orientation day for students and employers. Employers are invited to attend. Any request for student Recognition of Prior Learning and evidence will be assessed on the first day - original documents will be required.

Recognition is the process by which you can demonstrate you already have the skills or competencies taught in a unit or qualification. It is the recognition of the skills, knowledge and experience you have gained through previous studies, work and life in general. Put simply, it means if you can demonstrate you already have the skills and experience you can complete a part or a whole qualification without needing to attend classes.

There are two types of Recognition:
• Credit Transfer, which allows you to receive credit for unit/s of competency previously successfully completed.
• Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), which is an assessment process of your previous skills, knowledge and experience to meet the requirements of the course you are enrolled.
