Description: This qualification reflects the role of individuals employed as beauty therapists to provide a broad range of beauty therapy treatments and services including facial treatments, body massage and treatments, hair removal, lash and brow treatments, nail and make-up services. This includes consultation with clients to provide beauty advice, recommend beauty treatments and services, and sell retail skin-care and cosmetic products.

These individuals work relatively autonomously, and are accountable for personal outputs. Their work involves the self-directed application of knowledge and skills with substantial depth in some areas where judgement is required in planning and selecting appropriate equipment, services and techniques.

Work is typically conducted in beauty salons and spas.

No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

Volume of Learning:
Your learning commitment for this qualification is a minimum of 720 supervised hours There is an expectation that you will engage in a range of activities to support your supervised learning which may include:
• Independent study
• Work placement or simulated workplace activities
• Research and projects
• Preparation of assessment tasks
• Field/industry visits
• Tutorials
• Learning support

Required student skills This is a Diploma level course. Skills required include essay writing and referencing, typing skills, computer literacy, reading and analysing material and resources, problem solving, the ability to be a self direct learner, advanced communication skills and manage time effectively

Timetable: Monday and Tuesday 08:30am - 05:00pm and Wednesday 01:00pm- 05:00pm.

PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) & Lab Coat $50 - $70
You will be required to purchase a textbook - Approximate cost $150.00 Compulsory Makeup Kit –approximate price $250.00 - $300.00. Your teacher will discuss the kit with you on the first day of attendance.

Some resources may be available through the Illawarra TAFE Student Association (ITSARecognition is the process by which you can demonstrate you already have the skills or competencies taught in a unit or qualification. It is the recognition of the skills, knowledge and experience you have gained through previous studies, work and life in general. Put simply, it means if you can demonstrate you already have the skills and experience you can complete partial or a whole qualification without needing to attend classes.

Any request for student Recognition of Prior Learning and evidence will be assessed on the first day - original documents will be required.
There are two types of Recognition:
• Credit Transfer, which allows you to receive credit for unit/s of competency previously successfully completed.
• Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), which is an assessment process of your previous skills, knowledge and experience to meet the requirements of the course you are enrolled.
