||This qualification reflects the role of highly skilled senior managers who use a broad range of hospitality skills combined with specialised managerial skills and substantial knowledge of industry to coordinate hospitality operations. They operate with significant autonomy and are responsible for making strategic business management decisions.
This qualification provides a pathway to work in any hospitality industry sector and for a diversity of employers including restaurants, hotels, motels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafs, and coffee shops. This qualification allows for multi-skilling and for specialisation in accommodation services, cookery, food and beverage and gaming.
Possible job titles include:
area manager or operations manager
caf owner or manager
club secretary or manager
executive sous chef
food and beverage manager
motel owner or manager
rooms division manager.
No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

A requirement of this course is to undertake 36 service periods which is facilitated through the campus restaurant facilities.
Other service periods may be undertaken off campus as discussed with the teaching staff. Students will be required to wear black pants or skirt, black apron, black long sleeved shirt, black leather shoes.
You will be required to purchase textbooks and learner guides (approximate cost $200).
The NSW Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing charge $70 for the Responsible Service of Alcohol and $30 for the Responsible Conduct of Gambling Competency Cards (2016 price). These are required for any work in a licensed venue.
Volume of Learning:
Your learning commitment (known as the volume of learning) for this qualification is a minimum of 1637 hours. This includes approximately 972 hours of face to face training. You will need to allocate the remaining hours to engage in a range of activities to support your learning which may include;
- Independent study
- Work placement or simulated workplace activities
- Research and projects
- Preparation of assessment tasks
- Field/industry visits
- Learning support

Required student skills:
This is an Advanced Diploma level course. Skills required include essay writing and referencing, typing skills, computer literacy, reading analysing and creating material and resources, advanced problem solving, the ability to be a self-direct learner, advanced communication skills and manage time effectively

If you do apply for a VET Student Loan you will need to have your Tax File Number (TFN) handy. If you do not have a TFN you can apply for one through most Australia Post outlets, and obtain a Certificate of Application for a TFN. Once you receive your TFN from the Australian Tax Office (ATO) you must contact your college so they can arrange for you to enter it into your VET Student Loan application.

This will be an orientation day where you will be provided with your timetable, uniform and text book list and a student orientation package.
Recognition is the process by which you can demonstrate you already have the skills or competencies taught in a unit or qualification. It is the recognition of the skills, knowledge and experience you have gained through previous studies, work and life in general. Put simply, it means if you can demonstrate you already have the skills and experience you can complete a part or a whole qualification without needing to attend classes.
There are two types of Recognition:
• Credit Transfer, which allows you to receive credit for unit/s of competency previously successfully completed.
• Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), which is an assessment process of your previous skills, knowledge and experience to meet the requirements of the course you are enrolled.
