Description: This course is for trade qualified and licensed automotive light vehicle mechanics who wish to become an Authorised Examiner under the Authorised Safety Check Inspection Scheme (ASCIS - formally known as Pink Slip) administered by Roads and Maritime Services of NSW. The course is open to light and heavy vehicle mechanics who are qualified and licensed and have a current APPROVAL FOR TRAINING letter issued by Roads and Maritime.

The Authorised ASCIS Examiner is responsible for ensuring registered vehicles meet road vehicle safety standards by carrying out an inspection of light vehicles, motorcycles and light trailers. They issue inspection certificates that are commonly used by vehicle owners for registration renewal, to clear defect notices and to facilitate the sale of the vehicle, as well as other reasons.

Successful completion of this course enables your authority as an Authorised Examiner under the Authorised Safety Check Inspection Scheme. The course is delivered in a classroom and workshop environment at a TAFE college near you and includes 10 hours of face to face instruction designed to address the requirements of the Authorised Examiner role. The course covers your legal and compliance requirements and your role as a public official; the tools and test equipment required to thoroughly carryout inspection; inspection processes and workflows; Safety Check Standards and application of the Reasons for Rejection; light vehicle, motorcycle and light trailer specific inspection requirements; accessing and completing forms and using online reporting systems.

Class attendance is required to complete this course. The course is delivered face to face at multiple locations across NSW and is managed from TAFE NSW Wollongong.
Entry requirements: 1 - You must have a current APPROVAL FOR TRAINING letter with EXAMINER listed in the Eligibility section BEFORE enrolling in this course.

2 - NSW Fair Trading accreditation as a Motor Mechanic, Motorcycle Mechanic or Provisional Light Trailer repairer.

To apply for or extend an APPROVAL FOR TRAINING letter, follow this link: http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/documents/about/forms/45070499-authorisation-as-an-examiner.pdf or call RMS Enrolment Processing
on 1300 791 186.
