Description: This course is for workers who may be required to provide CPR in a range of situations, in community and workplace settings.

You will learn how to respond to an emergency situation, perform CPR procedures and communicate details of the incident.

When you finish this course you can undertake further First Aid training in other first aid related occupational courses. Advanced standing may be granted in courses where providing cardiopulmonary resuscitation in a community or a workplace setting is part of the course.

ENROLLING IN FIRST AID UNITS OF COMPETENCY

If you are seeking to enrol in a First Aid unit of competency you are advised that to complete the unit you must be able to perform basic life support skills, for example control bleeding and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). If you have a disability that would prevent you from performing required basic life support skills you are advised that you will not be able to achieve the unit of competency.

Many TAFE courses have a compulsory work placement component to assist you to apply your learning in a practical environment and you may be required to comply with some (or all) of the following.

1. HEALTH - NSW MINISTRY OF HEALTH - If you are over 18 you will be required to undertake a National Criminal Record Check. Visit:

- You will be required to sign the NSW Health Student Undertaking where you agree to notify NSW Health if your status changes after the date of issue of your National Police Certificate or during the completion of your course.
- You will be required to undertake Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Infectious Diseases and provide your Health Care Worker/Student Vaccination Record Card.

- You will be required to read and sign the N

STUDENT READINESS FOR WORK PLACEMENT - Generally work placements will only occur after there has been a reasonable amount of student/teacher contact and when the teacher is satisfied that you are ready to benefit from workplace learning and perform workplace duties. The First Aid Coordinator will provide you with a First Aid workbook and textbook prior to attending your first aid class and you will be required to complete Part 1 of the assessment workbook before you attend class. On the day of attendance you will be assessed on the practical components of the course.

The provide first aid unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty.

Recognition:
Recognition is the process by which you can demonstrate you already have the skills or competencies taught in a unit or qualification. It is the recognition of the skills, knowledge and experience you have gained through previous studies, work and life in general. Put simply, it means if you can demonstrate you already have the skills and experience you can complete a part or a whole qualification without needing to attend classes.

There are two types of Recognition:
- Credit Transfer, which allows you to receive credit for unit/s of competency previously successfully completed.
- Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), which is an assessment process of your previous skills, knowledge and experience to meet the requirements of the course you are enrolled.
