Description: This course is for workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

You will learn how to respond in an emergency situation, apply appropriate first aid procedures, communicate details of the incident and evaluate your own performance.

When you finish this course you can undertake further First Aid training in other first aid related occupational courses. Advanced standing may be granted in courses where providing first aid in a workplace is a part of the course.

ENROLLING IN FIRST AID UNITS OF COMPETENCY
---------------------
If you are seeking to enrol in a First Aid unit of competency you are advised that to complete the unit you must be able to perform basic life support skills, for example control bleeding and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). If you have a disability that would prevent you from performing required basic life support skills you are advised that you will not be able to achieve the unit of competency.

WORK PLACEMENTS

Many TAFE courses have a compulsory work placement component to assist you to apply your learning in a practical environment and you may be required to comply with some (or all) of the following.

1. HEALTH - NSW MINISTRY OF HEALTH - If you are over 18 you will be required to undertake a National Criminal Record Check. Visit:

- You will be required to sign the NSW Health Student Undertaking where you agree to notify NSW Health if your status changes after the date of issue of your National Police Certificate or during the completion of your course.
- You will be required to undertake Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Infectious Diseases and provide your Health Care Worker/Student Vaccination Record Card.

4. STUDENT READINESS FOR WORK PLACEMENT - Generally work placements will only occur after there has been a reasonable amount of student/teacher contact and when the teacher is satisfied that you are ready to benefit from workplace learning and perform workplace duties. Your teacher can provide further information.

About: The First Aid Coordinator will provide you with a First Aid workbook and textbook prior to attending your first aid class and you will be required to complete Part 1 of the assessment workbook before you attend class. On the day of attendance you will be assessed on the practical components of the course.

The provide first aid unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty.
This is a Nationally Recognised Unit of Competency - HLTAID003

During the practical CPR assessment on your day of attendance to class, you will be required to perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR both on an infant and adult manikin placed on the floor. This is the training package requirement and you should consider your ability to perform this assessment task before enrolling.

Welcome to TAFE NSW to complete competency HLTAID003 there are 3 Assessments that are required to be completed.

1. Assessment 1 – Online training through “Moodle” (TAFE online training platform) A. Please allow enough time to complete this activity as it can take learners up to 3-6 hours to complete.
B. You must COMPLETE this activity prior to your attendance at the scheduled workshop. If this theory component hasn’t been completed prior to face to face practical assessment you will be unable to successfully complete the unit HLTAID003 and your payment will be forfeited therefore you will have to pay again to complete.
