Description: This qualification provides an outcome for:
- experienced fire operators with responsibility for project design and supervision (Fire services stream)
- experienced plumbing service operators with responsibility for project design and supervision (Air conditioning and mechanical services stream)
- plumbers who manage a plumbing business (Plumbing and services – Management stream)
- specialist plumbing services tradespersons and operators seeking to deepen their technical skills (Plumbing and services – Operations stream)
- specialist hydraulic consultants (Hydraulic services design stream).

The qualification has core and elective unit of competency requirements that cover common skills for the plumbing industry, as well as the four specialist streams and a range of elective options.

The plumbing industry strongly affirms that training and assessment leading to recognition of skills must be undertaken in a real or very closely simulated workplace environment and this qualification requires all units of competency to be delivered in this context.

Completion of the general induction training program specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction Training for Construction Work (ASCC 2007) is required before entering a construction work site. Achievement of unit CPCCOHS1001A covers this requirement.

Scheduled attendance: 4.00pm to 9.30pm at Wollongong Campus, Block J Ground Floor Room 37 or via Adobe Connect at other locations.

About: Students will attend all classes either in person at Wollongong Campus or virtually via Adobe Connect. Students are expected to provide their own laptop/computer - phones and tablets are not sufficient. Students will need access to an A3 printer/scanner. Students need to have copies of current Australian Standards. Classes will occur weekly in the evenings.

Learning Commitment:
Your learning commitment for this qualification is a minimum of 600 hours which includes 324 hours face to face training. You will need to allocate the remaining hours to engage in a range of activities to support your learning which may include;
- Independent study
- Work placement or simulated workplace activities
- Research and projects
- Preparation of assessment tasks
- Field/industry visits
- Tutorials
- Learning support

Required Student Skills This is a Certificate IV level course. Skills to study effectively include research and interpretation of information, referencing, time management and ability to work on projects and or in a team.

This course is for students who have completed the Certificate III in Plumbing trade course and wish to continue their studies to complete the Certificate IV Plumbing qualification (Operations Stream). Students will attend via the online platform called Adobe Connect from home or their local TAFE NSW campus. This qualification consists of 15 units of competency, including the 7 units of competence required by Fair Trading to be eligible to apply for a plumber’s licence.

If you do not already have a USI, you can easily create one at https://www.usi.gov.au/students/create-your-usi. Recognition:
Recognition is the process by which you can demonstrate you already have the skills or competencies taught in a unit or qualification. It is the recognition of the skills, knowledge and experience you have gained through previous studies, work and life in general. Put simply, it means if you can demonstrate you already have the skills and experience you can complete a part or a whole qualification without needing to attend classes.

There are two types of Recognition:
• Credit Transfer, which allows you to receive credit for unit/s of competency previously successfully completed.
• Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), which is an assessment process of your previous skills, knowledge and experience to meet the requirements of the course you are enrolled.
