Description: This qualification reflects the role of individuals who combine technical, creative and conceptual skills to create designs that meet client requirements and solve a range of visual communication challenges. Practice at this level is underpinned by application of design theory and practice and the ability to analyse and synthesise information from a range of sources to generate design solutions.

Practitioners may work in many different commercial and community contexts across both print and digital media.

Entry requirements: To enter this qualification, individuals must provide evidence of their technical skills and ability to:
- produce multiple examples of graphic design work that respond effectively to different design challenges
- produce typography that supports the overall design solution
- use graphic design industry software

Skills may have been acquired through personal or work experience, or through formal study.

Your learning commitment for this qualification is a minimum of 800 supervised hours.
There is an expectation that you will engage in a range of activities to support your supervised learning which may include:

This is a Diploma level course. Skills required include essay writing and referencing, typing skills, computer literacy, reading and analysing material and resources, problem solving, the ability to be a self- direct learner, advanced communication skills and manage time effectively.

Fee explanatory text: The NSW Government Smart and Skilled reform has changed the way job-related training is provided, aiming at getting more people qualified for the jobs NSW needs. The qualifications supported through Smart and Skilled can be found on the NSW Skills List. This training is subsidised by the NSW Government.

The applicable fees for this qualification will be determined at time of enrolment, as per the detailed on the respective NSW Skills List for your year of training commencement. The fee you pay may be lower or higher depending on your personal circumstances and eligibility for a subsidised place, a concession, an exemption or applicable Training Services NSW student incentives being offered at time of enrolment. Comments: Recognition is the process by which you can demonstrate you already have the skills or competencies taught in a unit or qualification. It is the recognition of the skills, knowledge and experience you have gained through previous studies, work and life in general. Put simply, it means if you can demonstrate you already have the skills and experience you can complete a part or a whole qualification without needing to attend classes.

- Credit Transfer, which allows you to receive credit for unit/s of competency previously successfully completed.

About: This one-year course teaches you the knowledge and skills needed to develop and communicate creative graphic design solutions across the area of print and digital design. You will learn how to solve problems creatively, be imaginative, think laterally and extend and transform problems by designing innovative solutions, and produce creative, contemporary graphic designs.


Volume of Learning:
Your learning commitment (known as the volume of learning) for this qualification is a minimum of 800 hours. This includes approximately 432 of face to face training. You will need to allocate the remaining hours to engage in a range of activities to support your learning which may include;

If you do apply for a VET Student Loan you will need to have your Tax File Number (TFN) handy. If you do not have a TFN you can apply for one through most Australia Post outlets, and obtain a Certificate of Application for a TFN. Once you receive your TFN from the Australian Tax Office (ATO) you must contact your college so they can arrange for you to enter it into your VET Student Loan application.
