Description: This course is for trade qualified and licensed automotive light vehicle mechanics who wish to become an Authorised Examiner under the Authorised Safety Check Inspection Scheme (ASCIS - formally known as Pink Slip) administered by Roads and Maritime Services ( RMS ) of NSW. The course is open to light and heavy vehicle mechanics who are qualified and licensed and have a current APPROVAL FOR TRAINING letter issued by Roads and Maritime.

The Authorised ASCIS Examiner is responsible for ensuring registered vehicles meet road vehicle safety standards by carrying out an inspection of light vehicles, motorcycles and light trailers. They issue inspection certificates that are commonly used by vehicle owners for registration renewal, to clear defect notices and to facilitate the sale of the vehicle, as well as other reasons.

Successful completion of this course enables your authority as an Authorised Examiner under the Authorised Safety Check Inspection Scheme. The course is delivered in a classroom and workshop environment at a TAFE college near you and includes 10 hours of face to face instruction designed to address the requirements of the Authorised Examiner role. The course covers your legal and compliance requirements and your role as a public official; the tools and test equipment required to thoroughly carryout inspection; inspection processes and workflows; Safety Check Standards and application of the Reasons for Rejection; light vehicle, motorcycle and light trailer specific inspection requirements; accessing and completing forms and using online reporting systems.

Class attendance is required to complete this course. The course is delivered face to face at multiple locations across NSW and is managed from TAFE NSW Wollongong. 
Entry requirements: 1 - You must have a current APPROVAL FOR TRAINING letter with EXAMINER listed in the Eligibility section BEFORE enrolling in this course.

2 - NSW Fair Trading accreditation as a Motor Mechanic, Motorcycle Mechanic or Provisional Light Trailer repairer.

Your enrolment will be confirmed when TAFE NSW confirms receipt of your APPROVAL FOR TRAINING letter and payment of course fees in full.

About: This course is for trade qualified mechanics who wish to become an Authorised Safety Check Inspection Scheme Examiner (formally Pink Slip Inspector) and is delivered at a TAFE NSW automotive training facility. The 10 hour course covers legal and compliance requirements; your role as a public official; tools and test equipment; inspection processes and workflows; Safety Check Standards; Reasons for Rejection; light vehicle, motorcycle and light trailer specific inspection requirements; accessing and completing forms; and using online reporting systems.

Course assessment include; knowledge quizzes, inspection of motor vehicles, completion of forms and use of online reporting systems. Your enrolment includes two attempts to pass the assessments.

Fee explanatory text: This training is not subsidised by Government funding. There are no fee exemptions, concessions or subsidies available for this course.

Where Fee for Service is being sponsored by an employer or third party organisation an official purchase order or contract arrangement must be in place to activate the student’s enrolment.

Payment of course fee must be made PRIOR to commencement of learning activity.

Attendance is required at TAFE NSW Wetherill Park - Automotive Training Centre, The Horsley Drive, Wetherill Park on Wednesday 24 July 2019, 8.00am - 6.30pm.

Be prepared to safely enter a workshop environment. TAFE NSW observes WHS requirements. Personal protective equipment such as safety boots, eye protection and approved clothing must be brought with you and worn on the day.

Cancellation will not be accepted within 5 business days of the course start date. Your initial enrolment will be counted as your first attempt. You are entitled to 2 attempts of the course and a place in an alternative course will count as your second attempt.
