Description: Do you require practical first aid skills as part of your job or volunteer work? The Statement of Attainment in Provide First Aid course will provide you with up to date first aid procedures. You will learn how to respond in an emergency situation, communicate details of the incident and evaluate your own performance. Once you have successfully completed this course your First Aid skills will be valid for 3 years. However, the CPR component of the course is valid for 12 months and will need to be updated annually for you to keep your certification current. 
Other requirements: WORK PLACEMENTS

Many TAFE courses have a compulsory work placement component to assist you to apply your learning in a practical environment and you may be required to comply with some (or all) of the following.

1. HEALTH - NSW MINISTRY OF HEALTH - If you are over 18 you will be required to undertake a National Criminal Record Check. Visit:

- You will be required to sign the NSW Health Student Undertaking where you agree to notify NSW Health if your status changes after the date of issue of your National Police Certificate or during the completion of your course.
- You will be required to undertake Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Infectious Diseases and provide your Health Care Worker/Student Vaccination Record Card.

- You will be required to read and sign the NSW Health Code of Conduct form.

3. COMMUNITY AND CHILDREN’S SERVICES - Anyone in child-related work (including student placements and volunteers) MUST have a current Working with Children Check (students/volunteers free) in line with the Office of Children’s Guardian phase-in schedule and processes. Visit:

4. STUDENT READINESS FOR WORK PLACEMENT - Generally work placements will only occur after there has been a reasonable amount of student/teacher contact and when the teacher is satisfied that you are ready to benefit from workplace learning and perform workplace duties. Learning pathways: Credit for Prior Learning If you already have skills and knowledge that are relevant to your course, you may be able to apply for credit through articulation, credit transfer or recognition of prior learning.

The Provide First Aid unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty. This is a nationally recognised unit of competency - HLTAID003. For further information on this unit, please visit training.gov.au.

There is ’highly recommended’ First Aid pre course work. This can either be accessed by enrolling in a free on line TAFE NSW practice website or pre reading the TAFE NSW First Aid Textbook (8th Edition). The TAFE NSW South First Aid Section will make contact with you in regards to your preferred option. On the day of attendance you will be assessed on both practical and theory components of the course.

During the practical CPR assessment on your day of attendance, you will be required to perform two minutes of uninterrupted CPR on both an infant and adult manikin at floor level. This is a training package requirement and you should consider your ability to perform this assessment task before enrolling.

Once payment is completed, a welcome email will be sent with your preferred pre course method instructions and shall include course times; campus; classroom and teacher.
