Description: This course is designed for experienced welders working or seeking employment in the manufacture or repair of boiler, pressure vessel, pressure piping or high quality welded applications.

You will develop the theory and practical skills required to meet the assessment requirements specified in Australian Standard 1796-2001 which will (depending upon the 1-9 welding certificate undertaken) be certified to weld high quality applications on plain carbon and/or low alloy steel plate and pipe sections.

This course can be delivered and assessed on-the-job, off-the-job or a blend of both options.

The duration of this program of study will vary depending on the competency unit(s) and/or welding certificate 1-9 undertaken. 
Entry requirements: There are no formal educational requirements for entry into the units of competency in this Statement of Attainment.

NOTE
----

Students requiring welder certification against Australian Standard 1796 will need to meet the entry requirements specified in Sections 2 & 3 of the standard.
It is essential the RTO teaching sections ensure these entry requirements are met prior to enrolling students in either this Statement of Attainment 17431 or the TAFE Plus Statement 17622 Assessment Program. 
Learning pathways: When you have completed this course you will be eligible to receive the unit/s of competence and granted a welding certificate 1-9 as defined in Australian Standard 1796-2001. You will also be eligible to enrol in other courses in the Metal and Engineering Training Package MEM05. 
Career opportunities: Completion of competency standards units from this course will enhance your career progression under the Federal Metal and Engineering Industries Award.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Students must wear long cotton drill clothing, steel cap safety boots, clear safety glasses and supply own welding helmet and gloves.

Fee explanatory text: This training is not subsidised by Government funding. There are no fee exemptions, concessions or subsidies available for this course.

Where Fee for Service is being sponsored by an employer or third party organisation an official purchase order or contract arrangement must be in place to activate the student’s enrolment.

Payment of course fee must be made PRIOR to commencement of learning activity.
Comments: Students attend TAFE NSW Wollongong, Foleys Lane, Wollongong from Monday 25 February - Friday 28 June 2019, 5.30pm - 9.00pm in Block H - Metal Fabrication and Welding Workshop. Actual evening of delivery will be decided between students and teachers on the 25 February 2019.
