Description: This short course is structured to present an introduction to working with and caring for people with a disability, with a focus on achieving three (3) units including Communicate and Work Effectively in Health and Community Services, Work Legally and Ethically, and Contribute to ongoing skills development using a strengths-based approach. The Introduction to Disability Work short course would suit:

- People who would like to work in the Disability and/or Community Services Industry, and
- People who are looking for a career change. 
Career opportunities: Disability Support Worker, Personal Carer and Residential Support Worker. 
Support for students: TAFE NSW has a range of support services available including support for students with disabilities, extensive library and information services, career advice and counselling, children's centres and support for multicultural or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. No matter what your circumstances are, TAFE NSW can assist you in many ways.

This short course is for people interested in working with people who have Diabilities, and will be conducted one day per week over 7 weeks. Sessions will run on Thursdays from 10am - 2.30pm at the at the TAFE NSW Bega Connected Learning Centre, 199 Auckland St, Bega. Commencing 1/8/2019 - 13/9/2019.

Studying at a TAFE NSW Connected Learning Centre means that you don’t have to leave your local community to get a first rate education and access elite training, teachers and support services.

Connected Learning Centres are custom designed to utilise modern technologies, simulations and virtual reality experiences to offer you a wider range of choices, more accessible, practical training and flexible learning opportunities. Students can access work booths, group learning rooms, a computer hub, print shop, tech-bar, media lounge, and learning support centre and a creative space to work on ideas for the future.

STUDENT READINESS FOR WORK PLACEMENT Generally work placements will only occur after there has been a reasonable amount of student/teacher contact and when the teacher is satisfied that you are ready to benefit from workplace learning and perform workplace duties. Your teacher can provide further information.

NSW HEALTH Before you commence any clinical placements in NSW Health facilities, you will be required to
- Meet NSW Health’s - Criminal Record Check requirements;
- Sign the NSW Health Code of Conduct form and any other forms, as required by NSW Health;
- Undertake Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Infectious Diseases and provide your Health Care Worker/Student Vaccination Record Card.

For specific information regarding NSW Health’s requirements, and access to the required forms, it is recommended that you visit their FAQs for students at NSW Health website.

COMMUNITY AND CHILDREN’S SERVICES
Anyone in child-related work (including student placements and volunteers) MUST have a current Working with Children Check (students/volunteers free if over 18) in line with the Office of Children’s Guardian phase-in schedule and processes. For further information visit the NSW Office of the Children’s Guardian website and search for Working With Children Check.

AGED CARE WORK Before you undertake any clinical placements in Aged Care Facilities you will be required to undertake a National Police Check. For further information visit the Australian Federal Police website and search for National Police Checks.

ENROLLING IN FIRST AID UNITS OF COMPETENCY During the practical CPR assessment you will be required to perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR both on an infant and adult manikin placed on the floor. This is the training package requirement and you should consider your ability to perform this assessment task before enrolling.

This short course is for people interested in working with people who have Diabilities, and will be conducted one day per week over 7 weeks. Sessions will run on Thursdays from 10am - 2.30pm at the at the TAFE NSW North Wollongong, Foley’s Lane. Room to be advised. Commencing 1/8/2019 - 13/9/2019.

This course is offered by Connected Learning Classroom. This is just like a regular classroom, but teachers and students use the latest video conferencing technologies. Your teacher can be in one TAFE location, and you can join the class from another TAFE location using video conferencing equipment or a mobile device. You can also join in from a venue in a participating regional community. You will be able to see and talk to your teacher and other students as though they were in the room with you. You will also have access to support to meet your learning needs.

STUDENT READINESS FOR WORK PLACEMENT Generally work placements will only occur after there has been a reasonable amount of student/teacher contact and when the teacher is satisfied that you are ready to benefit from workplace learning and perform workplace duties. Your teacher can provide further information.

NSW HEALTH Before you commence any clinical placements in NSW Health facilities, you will be required to
- Meet NSW Health’s - Criminal Record Check requirements;
- Sign the NSW Health Code of Conduct form and any other forms, as required by NSW Health;
- Undertake Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Infectious Diseases and provide your Health Care Worker/Student Vaccination Record Card.

COMMUNITY AND CHILDREN’S SERVICES
Anyone in child-related work (including student placements and volunteers) MUST have a current Working with Children Check (students/volunteers free if over 18) in line with the Office of Children’s Guardian phase-in schedule and processes. AGED CARE WORK Before you undertake any clinical placements in Aged Care Facilities you will be required to undertake a National Police Check. For further information visit the Australian Federal Police website and search for National Police Checks.

ENROLLING IN FIRST AID UNITS OF COMPETENCY During the practical CPR assessment you will be required to perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR both on an infant and adult manikin placed on the floor. This is the training package requirement and you should consider your ability to perform this assessment task before enrolling.
