Description: This is a general qualification for entry into sectors of the animal care and management industry, where workers provide care for animals in workplaces such as animal shelters, kennels, catteries, sanctuaries and veterinary clinics. At this level, work takes place under direct supervision within clearly defined guidelines for work activities.

No occupational licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication. However, individual units of competency may specify relevant licensing, legislative and/or regulatory requirements. Are you an animal lover looking to put your passion to practial use while developing animal care skills? This is an entry level course aimed at students that would like to seek employment opportunities as an animal care or shelter attendant, kennel hand or cattery attendant, pet shop attendant, an assistant dog groomer or perhaps in the veterinary industry.

This Certificate II will teach you specific animal care and handling skills as well as improve your ability to work in the industry by communicating more effectively with your supervisors and colleagues. It will enable to to consider further study pathways such as Certificate III in Companion Animal Services, Certificate III in Animal Studies or Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing (working in a vet clinic).

To enrol in this course you must have a minimum of 6 hours a week work placement (paid or voluntary) or equivalent in blocks in an animal care facility with a mentor/supervisor for the duration of your enrolment. You will be required to provide details of your work placement prior to your application being deemed successful.
