Entry requirements: **TRAINING PACKAGE REQUIREMENTS**

**TAFE NSW REQUIREMENTS**

TAFE NSW offers the Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology as either an apprenticeship or non-apprenticeship so you can drive the career you want. Depending on the course you choose - and the campus you want to study at - you will need to provide evidence that you meet all relevant entry criteria.

**Apprenticeship**

To be eligible for this course, you must:

- Be employed as an apprentice Light Vehicle Mechanic
- Submit your training plan proposal (TPP) with your application
- Complete formal training with TAFE NSW and your informal, on-the-job training with your employer

**Non-apprenticeship**

To be eligible for this course, you must:

- Be over 21 years of age
- Provide evidence of significant and current industry experience. Your workplace evidence will be reviewed prior to course entry to make sure your skills and knowledge meet course requirements
- If there are gaps in your industry experience, you will need to do simulated work activities to ensure work evidence requirements are met

**LICENSING REQUIREMENTS**

This is a licensed profession in New South Wales. When you complete your apprenticeship, apply for a Motor Vehicle tradesperson certificate with NSW Fair Trading through Service NSW. Your license will need to be renewed every 3 years.

**BE PREPARED**

To be prepared for this course, it is recommended that you have:

- The ability to plan and organise the steps needed to undertake tasks
- The ability to think logically for vehicle diagnostics
- Tool skills to use hand tools and workshop equipment
- An interest in learning how components and systems work on a vehicle
- The physical capability to work as a motor mechanic
