Description: This qualification reflects the role of workers in a range of education settings, including public and independent schools and community education settings, who provide assistance and support to teachers and students under broad-based supervision.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

ENROLLING IN FIRST AID UNITS OF COMPETENCY If you are seeking to enrol in a First Aid unit of competency you are advised that to complete the unit you must be able to perform basic life support skills, for example control bleeding and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). If you have a disability that would prevent you from performing required basic life support skills you are advised that you will not be able to achieve the unit of competency. 
Other requirements: WORK PLACEMENTS

Many TAFE courses have a compulsory work placement component to assist you to apply your learning in a practical environment and you may be required to comply with some (or all) of the following.

1. COMMUNITY AND CHILDREN’S SERVICES

Anyone in child-related work (including student placements and volunteers) MUST have a current Working with Children Check (students/volunteers free) in line with the Office of Children’s Guardian phase-in schedule and processes. Visit:

2. STUDENT READINESS FOR WORK PLACEMENT

Generally work placements will only occur after there has been a reasonable amount of student/teacher contact and when the teacher is satisfied that you are ready to benefit from workplace learning and perform workplace duties. Your teacher can provide further information.

3. NSW HEALTH

Before you commence any clinical placements in NSW Health facilities, you will be required to
• Meet NSW Health’s - Criminal Record Check requirements;
• Sign the NSW Health Code of Conduct form and any other forms, as required by NSW Health;
• Undertake Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Infectious Diseases and provide your Health Care Worker/Student Vaccination Record Card.

4. AGED CARE WORK - Before you undertake any clinical placements in Aged Care Facilities you will be required to undertake a Federal Criminal Record Check. Visit:

To achieve this qualification, students must complete 100 hours of documented work placement as detailed in the assessment requirements of the units of competency. Securing a work placement with an employer is the responsibility of the student. TAFE will provide students with a letter that they may take with them to an employer. Check with your teacher on employer eligibility.

Students need to organise work placement in a local school and complete 100 hours of volunteer/paid work during their enrolment in the course.

Learners will need to allocate sufficient time to engage in a range of activities to support their learning. Your teacher will provide guidance as to the time required for activities including:
• independent study
• assessment tasks
• learning support and work experience.

Required Student Skills: This is a Certificate III level course. Skills to study effectively include the ability to use digital technology, respond to a range of text, communication and to ability to design tasks for students in a school environment.

Student support: The course delivery has been designed to provide a broad range of support to learners including optional workshops, study centre support, telephone and email support at designated times, Moodle, digital and/or online learning materials.

Your first class including an orientation session will be conducted on Monday 22 July 2019 at 9:30am at TAFE NSW Wollongong West, Gladstone Avenue, Wollongong, Building F, Level G, Room 45. If you can’t attend on this day then please contact the Coordinator on edonline68@tafensw.edu.au and they will contact you by phone or send you an email to get you started.

Please also email the Coordinators on edonline68@tafensw.edu.au when you are paid and fully enrolled and you are ready to start. You will then be given the enrolment key for the online classroom or Moodle.

Face to face workshops are offered but not mandatory. The workshops are held at TAFE NSW West Wollongong Monday 9:30am to 12:30pm weekly throughout the semester. The room location will be advised to students after enrolment.
