Description: This qualification reflects the role of counsellors, who work with clients on personal and psychological issues using established counselling modalities. They use communication, micro-counselling and interviewing skills and draw on varied counselling therapies to assist clients. At this level, the counsellor will be working in defined and supported counselling roles in established agencies rather than in independent practice.

**STUDY COMMITMENT**

This is a full-time face-to-face course. You will need to attend approximately 15 hours of class, 3 days a week, for 1 year. You are also required to complete approximately 9 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study, research, reading and assessment preparation.

There is an 200 hour work placement for this course and individualised program will be designed to accommodate student and industry needs.

This qualification reflects the role of counsellors who work with clients on personal and psychological issues using established counselling modalities. They use communication, micro-counselling and interviewing skills and draw on varied counselling therapies to assist clients. This qualification also supports roles which require strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with people in distress. This Diploma of Counselling can be used as credit for a number of courses which lead to accreditation as a Counsellor.

If you do apply for a VET Student Loan you will need to have your Tax File Number (TFN) handy. If you do not have a TFN you can apply for one through most Australia Post outlets, and obtain a Certificate of Application for a TFN. Once you receive your TFN from the Australian Tax Office (ATO) you must contact your college so they can arrange for you to enter it into your VET Student Loan application.
