Description: This qualification provides a trade outcome in bricklaying and blocklaying.

The qualification has core unit of competency requirements that cover common skills for the construction industry, as well as two specialist fields of work.

The construction industry strongly affirms that training and assessment leading to recognition of skills must be undertaken in a real or very closely simulated workplace environment and this qualification requires all units of competency to be delivered in this context.

Completion of the general induction training program specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction Training for Construction Work (ASCC 2007) is required before entering a construction work site. Achievement of unit CPCCOHS1001A covers this requirement.

About: All students need to have completed the OHS construction safety training (White Card) before participating in any practical sessions.

Students will need to bring appropriate bricklaying workwear and PPE. The PPE requirements are steel capped safety boots, eye protection and ear protection.

This course is for non-apprentices looking to gain skills, knowledge and a qualification in bricklaying and blocklaying. The group is usually made up of labourers, people interested in a career change or bricklayers that have been working in industry but do not have formal qualifications.

This course delivers the basic foundations and content for students to develop the skills and knowledge used in the building and construction industry, specialising in brick and blocklaying techniques. You will learn about brick/block types, brick/block accessories, glues, brick/block patterns and cement mortars.

You will also learn how to lay bricks and blocks using different bonds, including laying of brickwork/blockwork for domestic, commercial, industrial and public buildings, as well as how to construct ornamental panels, arches and columns.
