Each attendance day includes a 30 minute lunch break. Students may need to allocate time outside of the class times on unstructured learning activities to a maximum of 25 hours per week. These activities can include homework, revision, assignment preparation and research. However, many students will not need to spend this maximum number of hours per week outside of the class times as they may already have pre-existing knowledge and competencies.

This qualification is designed for individuals who require further foundation skills development to prepare for workforce entry or vocational training pathways.
It is suitable for individuals who require:
- a pathway to employment or vocational training
- reading, writing, numeracy, oral communication and learning skills at Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) Level 3
- entry level digital literacy and employability skills
- a vocational training and employment plan.
Foundation Skills Training Package qualifications may not be listed as an entry requirement for vocational qualifications.
