Description: This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in a wide range of general information and communications technology (ICT) technical functions and to achieve a degree of self-sufficiency as an advanced ICT user.

Learners are required to have the following skills:
Basic digital literacy skills to operate a personal computer
Write simple documents and messages to explain IT procedures
Access the internet for research and email
Save and manage files
Use computer operating systems and hardware

It is desirable but not required to have the following skills:
Operate application software packages
Connect hardware peripherals Maintain ICT system integrity
Detect and protect from spam and destructive software
Maintain ICT equipment and consumables
Connect and use a home based local wireless network

Students will be required to engage in a range of activities to support their learning which may include:
Simulated workplace activities (on campus practical workshops),

Independent study including:
Self-directed study developing skills learnt in class and through research, Computer network lab workshops (eg. practical labs), Simulated workplace activities (eg. Interviewing clients, chairing meetings with peers), Research and projects (eg. Researching new technologies and industry trends), Preparation of assessment tasks (eg. Summarising notes and completing past-papers), Field/industry visits (eg. Attending CEBIT expos, visiting IT employers), Work experience (eg. students are encouraged to see work experience with IT employers), Tutorials including peer learning and self paced study, Learning support (eg. Adult Study Centre), Online learning via Moodle or other Learning Management System (eg. Lynda.com).
