Description: This course is for people entering the metal and engineering industry in technical (non-trade) occupations such as CAD drafter, production scheduler, engineering assistant or similar roles.

You will gain compulsory competencies in organising and analysing information and in interacting with computing technology. You will also gain a range of elective competencies in areas relevant to your current or intended employment such as CAD, drafting, quality assurance, basic fluid power, basic mechanical design, production scheduling, cost estimating and basic non-destructive testing.

The course duration will vary depending on the training pathway agreed to between you, your employer and the TAFE college. 
Entry requirements: There are no entry requirements for this qualification.

However, it is recommended that applicants are already employed, or seeking employment, in the Metal and Engineering industry. 
Learning pathways: When you finish this course you may be eligible to enrol in other courses at Diploma and Advanced Diploma level in the Metal and Engineering Training Package. 
Career opportunities: Engineering Technician at level C9 under the Metal, Engineering and Associated Industries Award.

About: **STUDY COMMITMENT**

This is a face to face part time day course. You will need to attend approximately 14 hours of class, over 2 days a week, for 18 weeks. As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 6 hours of other study per week.

You may also be required to complete approximately 5 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study, assessment preparation, assignment preparation and research.

MEM30505 Engineering Technical is designed as a pathway into the MEM50212 Diploma of Engineering. 100% of the units undertaken in this course are able to be used as credit into the Diploma of Engineering should you wish to continue your Engieering journey.

An important next step is to attend your first day of class on Monday 10 February 2020, from 9.00am at TAFE NSW Wollongong, Block E, Ground Level. Please bring this receipt to orientation.

You will be provided with a timetable, assessment guides, advice about additional materials you may need to purchase and information on the support services available to you.

Students are required to provide and bring to each session appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which may include:
safety glasses, gloves, safety footwear, suitable clothing such as cotton drill work wear and other equipment (e.g. ear protection or respiratory masks) in line with industry requirements for their workplace or worksite.

Activate your student portal account which allows you to check your results, see fees and payments, and download your timetable.

To activate your account, go to https://my.tafensw.edu.au and login with your username and password, which was created as part of the online enrolment process and/or included on your receipt. Call us on 131 601 if you need it to be reset.

Once logged in, change your password and create 3 secret questions and answers.

Speak with customer service staff on campus to get your TAFECard which gives you special access to printing, copying and other services.
