Description: This qualification reflects the role of individuals who use a range of well-developed events administration or operational skills and knowledge to complete event-related work activities. Using discretion and judgement, they work with some independence under the guidance of more senior event personnel, using plans, policies and procedures to guide work activities.

Events are diverse in nature and this qualification provides a pathway to work for event or exhibition organisations operating in a range of industries including the tourism and travel, hospitality, sport, cultural and community sectors.

The diversity of employers includes event or exhibition management companies, event venues, or organisations that organise their own events. Work could be undertaken in an office environment where the planning of events takes place, on-site at venues where events are staged or a combination of both.

Possible job titles include:
conference assistant event or exhibition administrative assistant event or exhibition assistant event or exhibition operations assistant functions assistant in-house meetings assistant junior event or exhibition coordinator logistics assistant meetings assistant venue assistant.

It is anticipated that students will be engaging with the local hospitality and events industry and will be asked to volunteer at local events throughout the Cooma and Monaro district leading into the 2019 Winter ski season. This will include evening and weekends outside of the programed hours. It is anticipated that students will undertake work placement and complete 32 service period shifts (approx. 128 hours) for the unit SITHFAB014. Part of this can be undertaken in the campus restaurant at Cooma TAFE.

As students will be undertaking practical skills within a simulated restaurant and bar on campus, due to WHS and Food Safety you will be required to wear a uniform which includes; black closed non slip shoes, long sleeved shirt and black trousers.

This will include evening and weekends outside of the programed hours. It is anticipated that students will undertake work placement and complete 32 service period shifts (approx. 128 hours) for the unit SITHFAB014. Part of this can be undertaken in the campus restaurant at Nowra TAFE.

This course is for those students who are looking at a career in front-of-house positions within the tourism and hospitality and events industry. Students will learn the skills and knowledge to perform event registrations, organise and coordinate events as well as restaurant preparation and service, bar operations, and customer service. Learners will complete the mandatory units required by Liquor and Gaming NSW if working on licenced prermises including; Provide responsible service of alcohol (RSA). The cost of the OLGR photo card is $85 which must be paid prior to attending class. Learners must be 18 years and over if undertaking units where liquor service is a learning outcome. Learners who are under 18 years of age may complete other suitable units.
